WAVERLEY.

[FIIOJI OUR COItItKS TO ND E N T.]

BRANCH OFFICE OF THE MAIL, Wednesday Evening.

Towx Board. —The usual monthly meeting of the Town Board was held on Monday evening. Present, Messrs Swinbourne (chairman), Bead, and Bowie, It was moved by Mr Bowie, seconded by Mr Read, “That Chcstor-strcet be formed from the post office to Brassey-street. ” Carried. Proposed by Mr Read, seconded by Mr Bowie, and carried, “ That tenders be called for the formation of the Ceme-tery-road.”—Carried. Proposed by Mr Read, seconded by Mr Bowie, and carried, “ That tenders be called for fencing the Recreation Ground.” This concluded the business. Ratepayers must feel flattered by the attention paid to their interests by those members of the Board who promised so much and perform so little; forgetting to put in an appearance for two or three successive meetings, or neglecting to send in their resignation if wearied of the cares and responsibilities of office. Waimate Plains.—Mr Fookes, commission agent, has received a map showing the land to be sold for cash and on deferred payment, and a supply of schedules. This will be an advantage for those in this district who wish to know what is going on in the land market. It is to be feared these plains were never what they were represented. in quality as well as quantity. They have been too long in coming into the market, and having been inspected their value need not be over-estimated. Concert,—There is to be a concert here nest month, the proceeds to be devoted to the liquidation of the debt on the Presbyterian Church. The members and adherents, with friends belonging to other denominations, who are devoting so much time to practising their parts certainly deserve credit for patience and perseverance, and it is to be hoped when the concert comes off they may find their efforts to entertain fully appreciated. Mr F. R. Jackson’s monthly sale takes place on Frida} 7 , at 1 p.m. . There is a large number of entries ; and weather being favorable, we may expect a fair attendance.
