WAVERLEY.
[FROM our correspondent.] BRANCH OFFICE OF THE MAIL, Monday Evening. Lambing. —The season does not promise to be so favourable as was anticipated. On some farms the average is low, the best as yet heard of being 104 per cent; while 80 per cent will be considered a good average, a few being as low as GO. Late lambs may help up such low averages. Yesterday was wet, and to-day the wind blows cold f with occasional showers , but there is no room to complain of what may be termed a backward season. Carriers. —Our carriers will now require to push their trade towards Patea, as there is not now work for one team between this and Waitotara, MrM’Kenzic of Waitotara is also on the road with teams, and the competition must drive some to fresh fields, or compel a change of occupation. Coaches. —Mr Hall passed through here on Sabbath with a coach for the Hawera end of the road. It is reported that there is to be an opposition coach'started between Patea and Waitotara. IE so, the public may expect the usual benefit of cheapened fares while the competition lasts.
