HAWERA.
[f K O M OllK COIUIESrONUBN T .] BRANCH OFFICE OF THE MAIL , Wednesday Evening. Mr Bryce may arrive from camp tomorrow, and of course receive the usual number of deputations. The natives do not know what to make of being arrested and then sent adrift again. Nuku, Titokawaru’s brother, stated yesterday that he was going to eat the “ kai ” of the Governm out. Mr Bartlett concluded the sale of Sergeant Cahill’s place yesterday. I believe the price paid was £l2 10s per acre. This shows that old settlers know the class of laud, and are not afraid to give a good price for a good article. Mr. Bartlett intends to build a house on the property during the next throe months. The matter of the Normanby School Committee and teacher is still filling columns of the Slav , but I fancy the public arc rather sick of the whole matter. Mr Hill, the master, left on Friday last ; surely it would be as well not to stir up dirty water too much. It was rumored here last Monday that a resolution in the House had been curried with reference to stoppage of the New Plymouth Harbor Works. The Slav issued an extra to that effect, but next day issued another contradicting the first. It seems that a hoax had been perpetrated on poor llawera by some clever New Plymouthian.
