Several masked men shot at Loyd, the Crown Solicitor, and Ids two sons yesterday, at Kilkenny. Boyd is dying, and one of the sons is in a precariou ß state. The other is slightly wounded. AIIRESTS ON SUSPICION. London, 10th. Mr Boyd’s son has died from the effects of wounds received in the attack of masked men at Kilkenny. Several arrests have been made in the neighborhood of the outrage. NEWS FROM CANDAHAR. BRJTISII FORCE BESIEGED. Calcutta,. 10th. Intelligence has been received from Candahar to the 6th instant. General Primrose reports that the Citadel is in a complete state of defence, and he is provisioned for 25 days,. Ayoub Khan, with the bulk of his army, is encamped at Kokoran, near Candahar. EVACUATION OF CABUL. London, 10th. In the House of Commons to-day, the Marquis of Hartington, Secretary ol State for India, replying to certain remarks which had been made regarding the evacuation of Cabul, defended the withdrawal of British troops from that city. He said it is not now of any political importance that troops should remain at Cabul; and General Stewart had fully concurred in the proposal to remove them. SOUTH AUSTRALIAN BUDGET. A FALLING RE VENUE. Adelaide, Wednesday. The Treasurer made his financial statement in the Legislative Assembly last night. He showed that the revenue for the past financial year amounted to £1,831,000, being £2-1,500 below the estimate, leaving a debit balance of £213,000, exclusive of £30,000 appearing on the supplementary estimates. He estimated the revenue for the present year at £2,113,000, and the expenditure at £1,915,000, leaving a deficit on the accounts of £175,000, which will be covered by new taxes. These will, however, be deferred, in view of the elections shortly taking place.

SHOOTING IN A THEATRE. Melbourne, Wednesday, Solidry, the French Exhibition Commissioner, who was shot through jealousy at the Opera House, is a passenger for Europe by the Garonne. INCREASED TAXES IN TASMANIA Hobart Town, Wednesday. The Tasmanian Parliament was opened yesterday by the acting Governor, who, in his speech, announced that measures would be proposed for increase of taxation, with a view to augment the revenue. EXPLORERS MURDERED BY NATIVES. London, 10th. Intelligence has been received that two members of the Belgian expedition which is now exploring in Africa have been murdered by natives. The names of the unfortunate explorers arc Carter and Cadenhead, both English names. THE FASTING DOCTOR. New York, 9th. ' Dr Tanner, who fasted forty days, but which effort left him in a very emaciated condition, is now rapidlyrecovering. BANK DIVIDEND. London, 9th. The National Bank of New Zealand pays a dividend of three per cent, for the half year, equal to 6 per cent, per annum.

WAR PREPARATIONS IN GREECE Athens, 9th.

Greece is making extensive war preparations in consequence of possible hostilities with Turkey. The Great Powers acquiesce in the mobilisation of the Greek army. Constantinople, 10th.

The Turkish Government have resolved to negotiate directly with the Great Powers, with a view to bring about a settlement of the question as to the ratification by Turkey of the Greek frontier recommended by the Berlin treaty.

GREAT REVIVAL OF TRADE, London, 10th

The Board of Trade returns of imports for the past month amount to £33,375,000, being an increase of three millions as compared with the same mouth last year. The exports for the same period amount to £20,250,000, being an increase of £3,500,000.
