WAIMATE PLAINS.
fl I 'ROM OUH CCRUUSI'OXDENT.] Hawera, Wednesday
Air. Wright, the road overseer, is still busy superintending the repairing of bridges, between Waingongora and Opunaki. He hopes to be able to put the gravellors on again in about six weeks time.
Alany inquiries arc being made when the Plains are to be in the market by outsiders as well as residents. From what I can learn it is very probable that the land will bo put up for sale by the end of September. The chief surveyor has had instructions to push on the surveys with the utmost despatch, and he has withdrawn all the surveyors with one exception from tiie Ngaire and back lands. There is no news about more arrests from Parihaka way’, but many Plains natives arc going up with the intention they say of fencing across the road, ami seem quite indifferent about being arrested when the probability is pointed out to them.
