THE GOVERNOR'S RACING STUD.

Rumors which have been flying about as to the Governor’s intention of keeping a racing stud have now resolved themselves into certainty. The s. s. Wakatipu, will bring oh her return journey two racehorses which Sir Hercules Robinson has purchased from Mr Lambiul, who for many years trained for his Excellency in New South Wales. They are--the-3-year old filly Lady Emma, by Yattendon—My Fancy, an animal that performed very well as a 2-year-old last season, and Ghana, by Rapid Bay—Gipsy. It is stated that both these fillies will be prepared far the Metropolitan meeting at Christchurch next November. The only other racehorse at present owned by her Majesty’s representative in these Islands is the colt purchased some months ago from Mr Ferguson, of tho Waikato. His Excellency's appearance in the racing arena will be heartily welcomed by those who have the interest of true sport at heart. : Horse-racing in New Zealand is at present at a very low ebb, owing to the best horses being almost exclusively in the hands of the “ ring.” It is to be hoped that the example of Sir Hercules Robinson will be followed by others in the front rank of New Zealand society, as in that event our turf morality would be considerably improved. — Post. A telegram states that the two horses arc to bo prepared for the November meeting atChristchurch.
