Fall of a Tunnel.
FIVE MINERS BURIED. Kuraara, Wednesday. Five men have been buried by the fall of a tunnel at Maher’s now shaft at Larrikins, a lately opened gold digging. The drive gave way, shutting up the men ; and the shaft being 130 feet deep, the work of battening the sides'and' digging out the fallen earth-was very heavy. Three men are known to he alive, but the fate of the other two is doubtful. It map take three days to dig the men out. Wednesday. Later, • The men buried in the drive at Kumara have been got out with the exception of. two brothers Phelan. James Whelan was rescued at noon to-day, slightly injured ? also Philip Cummins, who was fearfully crushed about the legs, amputation being necessary. Brown escaped last night by making his way through the timbei and debris, unhurt. The two Phelans are dead, their bodies not yet recovered.
