WAVERLEY.

EUAXCJI OFFICE OF THE MAIL; Manager, Mr. Foo/tcs. Accident, —Mr J. Harrison, road contractor, met with rather an ugly accident on Tuesday evening. Ho was proceeding homewards when Mr Johnston, of Waitotara, who was coming at a sharp pace from the way of Carlyle came against him and knocked him down. He was stunned for some time. He must have got a very heavy fall, and no doubt will feel the effects of it for a time. School-Buildings. —There have been a saddle-shed and lavatory erected for theffise of the pupils attending the school, and the closet-accomodation is to be improved upon. It is a vciy easy matter to grumble about what is not, and say how things ought to be, but we believe the school committee have had some difficulty in obtaining what has been got from the Board. The committee must makeup their minds to enjoy the pleasure of keeping the Board well posted up as to their wants. Recent B ain. —The downfall of rain which we had on Monday has done a great deal of damage to the railway workings. This is the more to be regretted as the principal part of the work is in the hands of small contractors who have much to lose by having to go over work twice, while the softness of the ground will in some places prevent them from doing much for a few days. The weather however has taken up, and we may have a turn of good winter weather.
