KAKARAMEA.

(from our correspondent.)

The entertainment in aid of the Institute came off with great success on Friday'last. The Town Hall, beautifully decorated for the occasion, was so crowded that many could not find seats, and scarcely standing room. To attempt giving a detailed account of the performance of the dusky Snowball Minstrels might lead to serious consequences, but I cannot help mentioning the talent and ability displayed by Messrs the corner-men, whose jokes, conundrums, and local hits were extremely well rendered, creating amusement for young and old. Taking the performance of the troupe as a whole, I can say without hesitation that it w r as far beyond what many in the district had expected. The second part of the. entertainment commenced with an overture played with brilliancy by a young lady well known for her musical talents. A recitation by a gentleman followed, and w’as deservedly applauded. A violin with piano accompaniment also received its meed of praise ; and a side-splitting tavee by three members of the colored troupe, which terminated this part of the proceedings, brought down rounds of applause. Dancing commenced at i 0.30, and was kept up with enthusiasm until an early hour. All who took part in it owe a debt of gratitude to those ladies who kindly provided the refreshments in such abundance that the tables fairly groaned under their burden of good faro. The Library Committee may congratulate themselves on receiving a considerable addition to their funds, which will enable them to procure a number of new works for the benefit of subscribers.
