NEW POWDER MAGAZINES.
■ The Government have erected two magazines in the vicinity of Kaiwarra, near Wellington. During the last few months men have been hard at work, and the buildings arc now completed. They arc built of brick, and the roofs are slated. Both buildings arc of the same dimensions, being over 200 feet in length, -10 feet in width, and about the same height. They arc built side by side, at a distance of only fifty feet Adjoining the magazines there has been erected a six-roomed house for the, accommodation of the keeper and his family. The Government deserve credit for the expeditious manner in which the work has been carried out. The powder in the old magazine will be shilled to the new ones immediately. At times an immense quantity of powder has been stored in tbe old pi ace, and bad an accident caused ah .explosion, the Te Aro flat would have been severely shaken. Even though Van explosion were to happen at the new place, no one in the city would suffer.
