HAWERA.

[from our correspondent.]

The Concert in aid of the Institute, held in the Town Hall on Wednesday evening, was a success in every way. The vocal and instrumental parts throughout were excellently rendered, and called forth frequent applause. In an entertainment of such thorough excellence it is undesirable to pick out individual paits in the programme as worthy of special mention, so I refrain from doing so. I believe that by the kind exertions of the performers the Institute will benefit pecuniarily to the extent of about £25. The, hall was crowded, and many who paid for the front seat privilege had to take standing room at the back. Mr Thomson’s land sale to-day fell rather fiat after yesterday’s spirited bidding. All the land was withdrawn, owners holding back with high reserve prices.
