WAVERLEY.
[from our correspondent.] County Council. —The nomination of candidates for the vacant seat at the Council Board took place on Thursday at the Town Hall. The following candidates were proposed and seconded : Messrs G. S. Bridge, James Dune, H. F. Mason, and Wilson Milne. If the number of candidates, and their past experiences in a public capacity, are to be taken into account, the Ratepayers have certainly a very good list from which to elect a member. Mr Wilson Milne proposes addressing the-‘ratepayers in the Town Hall on the 9tb, and he may expect a large attendance. In these hard times we get partial to public assembles when there is an opportunity of putting questions. ... Race Course.—The ploughing of the course took place yesterdy. Twenty ploughs were to start, but the account of this ploughing must be left over for your next issue. Railway Work. —The cutting and workings generally are getting more into shape every time one passes along. The wet weather has certainly kept back the work, but the progress made with the fencing and works generally is good. The delay in bridging the Waitotara, and on the works of the Kai Iwi Watiotara, £enerally._will prevent the contractors for the Waverley section from getting their material at the time specified ; and thus, as in many- other cases, ;the Railway draws its slow length along, suffering from delays allowed by Governindent to- which no- private v -firm would,' submit. !
