,;;PATE4 WEST ROAD BOARD. The usual meeting of this Board was held at the Towrt.j llall, on , Mpnday; Present Messrs R., E. Mcßae.(chair-1 jnan) ti - Chapman._jjapiqr, - Paterson, 1 “Campbell, Mnrchant, and Taylor. I A letter from Mr Shaw requested; the Board to fall bush on Wood and Hunter
streets’, at’Wobdvillc. Proposed; by Mr Chapman; seconded /by Mr Taylor,mud carried, That . Mr’ Shaw be allowed ids per.jpham -for falling 2$ chains of : bush; on Wood and Hunter streets, Wood-, ville, payment to be made when the Board is in funds. Resolved, ; That notice be given to close those portions of Lower Kakaramca, Garscd, Tnmaha, and Wilson roads, that are not required in consequence of the deviations that have been made. Proposed by Mr Chapman, seconded by Mr Paterson, That notice be given that a rate of fonrpenco in the £ will be struck on the 14th Juno, on all rateable property within the district, and that the rate shall be due and payable at the office of the Board, on the 15th June, for the period commencing 11th June, and ending 31st March, 1881. An amendment was proposed by Mr Marchant, seconded by Mr Mcßae, That the question of striking a rate stand over for the new Board to deal with. For the amendment, Messrs Mcßae, Taylor, and Marehant: against, Messrs Campbell, Paterson, Napier, and Chapman. The motion was then put and carried. Proposed by Mr Marehant, seconded by Mr Campbel', and carried, That all unexpended rotes bo now cancelled. Account passed for payment: Patea Mate, £1 4s. School Committee. —A mect.ng was hold in the school-house, on Tuesdey. Present: Messrs Clover (in the chair), Dclamoro, Paterson, Payne, ami Salmon. Proposed by Mr Paterson, seconded by Mr Salmon, and. carried, That Mr W. Dixon’s tender lor painting the school and teacher’s residence, be accepted, subject to the approval of the Wanganui Education Board. The Patea Mail account of £1 17s 6d was passed for payment. Proposed by Mr Paterson, seconded by Mr Dolamore, and carried, That the Secretary write to Education Board, asking if funds would be granted for carrying, up the brickwork of the school chimney and bracing it to the roof, the probable cost being £l. Ox Saturday lest, Mr James Williamson ami some ladies, when driving a, buggy into Carlyle, m.rrowly escaped a serious accident. One of the horses commenced shying, and broke a trace. Two gentlemen coming up at the time fortunately quietened the startled animal, and so relieved the ladies from apprehension of danger, for after the trace gave way the driver had no effectual control over the horse.
