Mr. Ballance at Waverley.

A largo meeting of Mr Ballance’s constituents and supporters was held last ■night, in the Waverley Town Hall," Mr Fookes Mr Ballance dealt with similar topics to those reported in his address at Wanganui. He referred also at length to the native question, and criticised tjm policy ot the present Government ip tjiciy ipo.de pf dealing with Te Whiii as a heaven-born prophet. He asked what They could pretend to be fighting for at a cost of £GOO a day, when their own Commission had, in their name, surrendered nearly the whole of the Plains. Te Whiti’s potency for evil was no less now than cypp ; and the Government dare not touch him, nor had ; they the will to bring Hiroki to justice as an avowed murderer, sheltered by To White, although they had now an armed force of 700 men within short range of Paribaka. The policy of tlfo iate Government, on the contrary, was a speedy settlement of the Plains A resolution Vf‘ confidence*, moved by Mi Winchcomb, and seconded by Mr Mason, was carried unanimously.
