VOLUNTEER AMALGAMATION .
Sir, —-Having read the patriotic letter of the captain of No. 2 company, I _ wish to point out some inaccuracies have appeared therein, and to say that it was not a personal attack upon himself that I .intended, nor./lid I wish to show in either of my letters’ that he wasjto blanig in particular. But what I have atteihpted to point out in this, that there was not the unanimity of "opinion between the' two" companies which there should have been. 1 think that there is no member of the two companies who has the interest of the Carlyle Volunteer Hides more sincerely at heart than 1 have, and the reason that I would, wish to see the two companies aulai-' gamated is,'as I stated "in my previous letters, that wb should have a larger and ; more efficient company if the two were emerged into one. We might also have, what at present I do not see the slightest chance of, and that is a band. Now, I would ask, will the same amount of interest he taken in a- Volunteer corps without a hand, or with one ? I think the answer is in my favor ? • With rcspe.ct to the eificieimy of the No. 2 company, 1 agree with “ the captain” that the credit is due especially to the non-commissioned officers. I cannot help maintaining that there were the names of men who were conspicious by their absence from drill on the capitation roll., I did not mean to insinuate that any person would he “benefited by the accounts being falsified,” but that “ Another Volunteer’s” calculation showing statements was incorrect, if those men had not been credited with attendance. I may say that I was sorry to see in l< Another Volunteer’s” letter that the statement of capitation appeared, and on which I was compelled to make some remarks, which I should not otherwise have done, showing that the company would not bo benefitted thereby. In concluding, I have to thank you, lylr Editor, for having given your space tothissubject, on which I shall write no more, and I hope, in which I think you will concur, that if the two companies are amalgamated we shall shortly have a Volunteer corps which will be a credit to the district, and in which the. writer, of this will still be proud to figure in the ranks.—l am, &c., : VOLUNTEER,
