The Marquis of Hartington, leader of the Liberal party in the House of Commons, has bad audience of the Queen at Windsor. llis lordship returned to town and bad interviews with Earl Granville, leader of the Liberal parly in the Upper House, and with Mr Gladstone, bead of the party in the last Liberal Administration The Marquis of Hartington paid another visit to the Queen, and declined to undertake the formation of a Ministry. It is understood that the noble Marquis suggested that the task might devolve more fittingly on Mr Gladstone. PREMIER AND CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQI T ER. April 24 (later). Mr Gladstone was to-day summoned to Windsor by the Queen, and lias accepted the task of forming a new Administration. Mr Gladstone will bold office as First Lord of the Treasury, the office usually held by the Prime Minister, and will also undertake the duties of Chancellor of the Exchequer. Earl Granville will probably be the Minister of Foreign Affaiis, a position which be bold in the last Liberal Administration, under Mr Gladstone. The other members of the Ministry are not yet selected, but consultations and negotiations are going on, and there is much interest felt in the composition of the new Administration, owing to the peculiar relations of the various sections of the Liberal party.
