WAVERLEY.

[From our Correspondent.] Monthly Salks.—Mr F. R. Jackson held In's animal stock sale on Friday last. There was a good supply of cattle, and prices ranged according to quality, one lot of eight being sold lor £G 17s 6d per head. There is not much improvement in prices ; but as all the cattle in the yards changed hands, this may be considered a sign of improving times. There was only one small lot of iat sheep for sale, and it was passed in, while there was a mare offered at £3 without a purchaser being found. The Cemetery. —lt seems about time that the Trustees or some others interested in this allotment bestirred themselves to have some attention paid to the arrangement of the cemetery here. At present it seems that graves are opened without any regard to footpaths, which are laid off or ought to be, and the result is easily foretold. When an attempt is made to put the ground in order, bickering and confusion follow as a matter of course. It is a good plan to prevent snob confusion by timely attention to these matters. FiLINf! is becoming a fine art in this colon}’. Mr Thomas Flynn, a bootmaker at Gore, in Southland, has been baulked in liis attempts to turn an honest penny. He filed for £6O, but it was discovered just before doing so he had withdrawn £1)0 from the bank. He was taxed with the fact and then gave up £B6. The judge intimated that the creditors would bo paid in full, and the balance would go towards the expenses of prosecuting the bankrupt. Poor Flynn’s disappointment must be severe.
