RESIGNATION of the GOVERN- ' . ME NT. [Special by Cable.] Loudon, April 13. The Standard published a paragraph stating that the Ministry only delay resigning in consequence of the absence of the Queen on the Continent; that their resignation will be tendered immediately on Her Majesty’s return. LORD HARRINGTON’S VICTORY. London, April y. The election for North East Lancashire took place to-day, and resulted in the return of two Liberals—Lord Hartington and Mr Grafton—in the place of two Conservatives who represented the constituency in the last Parliament. LIBERALS AND HOME RULE. All the prominent Liberal candidates have expressed sympathy with Ireland, but declined to pledge themselves to vote for the Home Rale programme so far as it proposes a separate Parliament for Ireland. RESULT OF THE CONTESTS. London, April 15. Elections nearly concluded, and the returns so far show that 349 Liberal, and 235 Conservatives have been elected, thus leaving a majority of 114 for the Liberal party. The Home Rules number (13, including 25 followers of Parnell. The large boroughs show a gain of 57 seats to the Liberals, and in the counties they have gained 47 seats formerly held by Conservatives. The Home Rule party have gained seven seals.
