The Supposed Loss of a small schooner bound for Patea maybe saleiy contradicted. The Falcon, Captain Leslie, cleaved at the Lyttelton Customs for Patca on the 2nd ; but it is probable she did not leave port before the southerly gale which occmred about that tune. If so, she would not sail before the 4th or o'h, and the length of voyage up to the present date is not such as to cause anxiety, although she may have bad a bad time in the Straits this week. The Patea Steamship has been painted inside and out, ami the bottom cleaned, .'during her stay at Nelson last week. She arrived off the Patca heads on Sundaj' morning about seven o’clock, and waited till 9.30 before attempting to cross the bar in a heavy sea. She had strong westerly winds on the passage, but escaped the gale which blow on Sunday afternoon. The Pat*-a was to have sailed on Tuesday morning for Wellington, hut could not cross the bar in the gale then blowing. She will leave this morning if the wind abates. Assessment. —Mr W. A. G. Winchcomb is appointed Assessor for Patea East. Wairoft Highway, and Waverley Tovn pistriets, under the Properly Assessment Act.
