WAVERLEY.

Town Board.— A meeting of the members of the recently appointed Town Board was held in the old Town Hall, on Friday last. The business was of a preliminary nature. Mr Swinbourne was elected chairman, and it was arranged that the meetings of the Board shall be held on the last "Wednesday of each month, being a week previous to the monthly sittings of the County Council. It is to be hoped the members will justify the expectation that they may be spoken of as men of useful action rather than of good intentions.Cricket. —A match was played here on Saturday between the local team and the "Waitotara Club, resulting in a victory for the latter. This is not-surprising, as little attention is paid to practice by Waverley cricketers.

Town Hau.. —The shareholders of the Warm-ley Town flail Co. (Limited) met on Saturday evenin ' to e’e-t auditors, when Messrs Scot and Taylor were duly elected.

Waiiioa Highway Board, —The usual imvting of this do.ml was held at Mr Fooks’s, on Saturday. The nature of the business is not definitely known outside the Board ; but it is stated that Mr. John W. Thurston has been appointed Clerk of the Works to the Board.

Sudden Death, — A case of very sudden death occurred here on Thursday last. Miss Stewart, a young lady residing with Mr McFarlane, builder, was taken suddenly ill, and died within 48 hours. The docto’r has reported that inflammation was the cause of death. Much sympathy is felt for Mr and Mrs McFarlane under the painful circumstances. The deceased was about 21 years of age, ami much respected in the district. There was a large attendance at the funeral.
