HAWERA.

[Telegraphed by our own Correspondent.] March 19. The Hon John Hall (with Secretary), Judge Fenton, Major Brown, and Mr Danis, arrived here to-day from New Plymouth, and leave this evening for Oeo and Opunnko, A deputation wailed on the Premier in reference to several local matters. Mr Barley man asked whether tho sum voted for railways in this district—viz., £233,000 would be expended before March, as a good many people had the idea tiiat unless it was expanded before the end of the financial year, a fresh vote would have to be obtained. The Premier said that the Act had made provisions tor that, and has extended the time until June. He also said that a groat portion of tho amount voted had been expended, as all contracts taken since last June on this line would have to come out of the loans. Ho saw the necessity of completing the lino between Normanby and Stratford, which would be gone on with at once. Mr Blackett had informed him that the contractor for the first contract between Stratford and Normanby bad been offered a bonus if lie could complete bis contract before June, but from what he (Mr 'Hall) had seen of the work to-day, lie did not think it could be completed. Mr Barleyman tlien spoke to Mr Hall in reference to a memorial that was sent to Major Atkinson, about appointing a Regislroiv. af--BL.tLa, Dualhs, and i!imiagos ut Hawera, and several oilier local matters. The Premier said with reference to the first mentioned, it had quite slipped his memory, as he and Major Atkinson had had a long talk over the memorial, and he thought that a Registrar of Births, &c., a most important thing, and had fully intended having a person appointed at once. However, he would ho in Wellington in the course of next week, and would see that it was done without delay. After a few more remarks, the deputation rose to withdraw', Tnc Premier congratulated them on their lino district, and Imped it would be quite settled before long. Mr Barleyman then thanked the Premier for his courtesy, and the deputation withdrew. Tho Native Commission is expected to arrive here to-morrow.
