WAIROA HIGHWAY BOARD.

The above Board met on Saturday last, being the first meeting of the newly elected members. Present Messrs Bridge, McLeafi, lon, Aiken, and Johnston.

On the motion of Mr McLean, seconded by Mr Johnston, Mr G. S. Bridge was elected Chairman. Minutes of previous ordinary and special meetings read and confirmed. . £74 10s 7d; block viii, £137 16s 3d; block ix, £l5O. Resolved, That the chairman be treasurer; that (three members of the Board form a quorum; that the chairman represent the Board at the Assessment Court; that any two members of the Board sign cheques. Proposed by Mr McLean, seconded by Mr Johnston, and carried, “ That the proposed deviation of road to Block viii, at the foot of Williamson’s spur, be left to the chairman’s decision.”

Proposed by the Chairman, seconded by Mr Johhstonj and carried, “ That Mr Aiken report to the Board at next meeting how the railway will affect the grades on the roads it crosses in No. 1 Ward.”

T. Harris applied for a bridle track on road past Keuah’s; deferred till next meeting. Proposed by Mr lon, seconded by Mr McLean, and carried, “ That the culvert on Kenah’s road be opened.” Proposed by Mr Aiken, seconded by Mr Johnston, land carried, -“That strangers be excluded from meetings of the Board.”

W. Milne’s resignation of the Office of Foreman of Works was received, and it was decided to call for tenders to fill the vacancy, ; Tha .following tenders were opened:— Bush t'sJ’ing on Block viii—Jeffcoct

& Co, 14s per chain (accepted); J[. Sentworth, 17s pet fehain. ' Cutting aud„Banking . South, Side Block via—Jelfcott & Co., £'2 5s per chain; J. Hughes, £4 per chain; Dudley & Willcox £l4 10s.—On the motion of Mr McLean, it Was resolved to hold these tenders over till next meeting.

Cutting north side Block ffii—cott & Go., £8 15s per chain (accepted); Dudley & Willcox, £4 9s per chain ; Helling & Co., £4 15s per chain; J. Hughes, £5 7s 6d per chain. Gravelling Waitotara River Bank Road—Plannary Bros., £4 9s per chain (accepted); Johnston, £5 7s per chain; Hughes* £5 15s 6d per chain;. J. nntj R. Gordon, £5 7s per chain, shell £7 ; Robinson (from new pit), £4 15s (from Dane’s) £6 5s per chain ; J. Cheyne, £4 19s per chain, formation £l4. The following accounts were passed for payment:—J.
