COUNTY LAND REVENUE.
(To the Editor of the Patea Mail.) \ Sie, —According to a report forwarded from Hawcra by the correspondent of the Wanganui Herald, of a public meet-
ing held there on the 17th instant, it appears that Mr McGuire made certain statements re land revenue received by Patea County Council. He stated that out of a sum of £2,121 which the County should have received from sale of land in the County, but situated in the Wellington Provincial District, only .£'432 10s 9d had been received. The reason the County did net receive more in this instance, was owing to tiie fact that most of the land purchased was paid for by scrip. Re the land sold in tin’s County within the Taranaki Provincial District,Mr McGuire stated the County had only received £59 13s 6d, instead of the proper amount, £439 18s. This is an error. Just be fore the late Government went out of office, the first mentioned sum was remitted to the Council, and on receipt, Mr McGuire (then Chairman of the Council) wrote to Major Atkinson, who was then Colonial Treasurer, upon the subject, who at once had the proper amount placed to the credit of the County. —I am, &c., W. DALE.
