{To the Editor of the Patea .Mail.) Sin, —I see by the Wanganui Herald of the 3rd instant, that Mr Ballance has presented a petition from William Leist r, of Wanganui, to the House of Representatives, praying for the land of Farrier-Sergeant Unff of the Wanganui Cavalry, who was killed in action. It appears a strange coincidence to me that of the, three men who were killed at Puugaiilui, two of them (Green and Duff) should have expressed the same wishj as I believe Mr Leister has already received Green’s land, at least I know he applied lor it. I draw your attention to this as Farrier-Sergeant Duff has relations at home, and I consider it would be manifestly unjust to them, if a perfect stranger should be granted the land without he can produce reliable proof that Duff expressed such a wish. “ ONE OF THE OLD FORCE,” AND FRIEND OF DUFF’S. Waver!ey, 11th October.
