New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company have received thefollowing telegram, bearing date London, Sept. 27: —Wool sales closed at an average decline of Id to l£d per pound On the 26th inst. Sales comprise about 290,000 bales—4o,ooo were beld over for future disposal, and 180,000 bales were taken for export. Combing declined Id per pound since close of last sales. Superior clothing and washed declined l£d to 2d per pound. Scoured declined Id per pound since close of last sales. Medium and inferior greasy •declined £d to Id per pound ; also, crossbred l£d. September 30. A boat with four men wan seen to capsize off North Head. The boat came ashore bottom up. No signs of men. Names unknown. Sydney Tawhinga left for Wellington yesterday to present a petition against the ejection of John Lundon and Mohi Tawhai. The engineer of the Ringarooma, after trying 200 tons Waikato coal, reports favorably on it. Hauraki Manning, of Hokianga, arrested for issuing valueless cheques, escaped from the police at Hokianga, and it is supposed has been sheltered by Maoris. GISBORNE. September 30. Information was laid to-day at the Police Court, Gisborne, against Wm. Lee Rees, barrister and solicitor, with issuing a cheque with intent to defraud.
