Letter from Ameer to Viceroy, whick was written subsequent to the massacre, declared most sincere friendship. There being conflicting accounts as as to bis sincerity and attitude, the Indian Govern" ment were somewhat distrustful of the sincerity of his protestations, and Colonel Roberts received instructions to ask him to prove his friendship in a piactical manner. Frontier is perfectly quiet, and there is no hostile sign. Perfect tranquility prevails also at Candahar.
