ORIGINAL CORRESPONDENCE.

[We arc at all times ready to give expression to every shade of opinion, but in no case do we hold ourselves responsible for the sentiments of our correspondents.] CORRECTION. (To the Editor ove the Patea Mail.) Sift, —In the report of the Presbyterian Church Fuad Entertainment, which appeared in your issue of the 31st, allow mo to correct an error which occurred —that the Harmonic Society gave their services for the occasion. The facts of the case are these. The Society was requested by the Eentertainment Committee to lend their aid in the first part of the programme, but as on previous occasions it has been thought advisable to abstain from giving assistance as a Society to any religious denomination, thinking such might lead to dissctitions amongst the members (who might have scruples in certain cases in religious matters), the Committee decided to ask any members who wished to aid on the present occasion to signify their willingness, when almost all the members voluntarily came forward, Mr Torment was then elected to conduct as a private individual, and not as the recognised leader of the Society.

I think it only right to correct the error which has appeared, and further to state that it is the intent ion of the Society to permanently adhere to the present decision ; and in order to give effect to tins, it is intended to frame a special rule to that effect.—l am, &c , EDWARD C. HORNER, _ Hon Sec.-Carlyle Harmonic Society.
