Following is telegram :— 1 Will yon contest Cheviot with Saunders on the platform of the Governor’s speech. Onr part}' will give you all the supnort we can, and if you cons'-nl, your claim for consideration shall receive attention, whether you are successful or not. — Whitmore.’ ” Certain telegram published at Ashburton, purporting to be one from Whitmore to Ingles, with regard to opposing Saunders for Cheviot, is audio: natively stated not to be copy of Whitmore’s telegram, but materially altered. NELSON. September 5. It was expected Shepherd would be returned unopposed for Waimea, but Curtis and Acton .Adams, candidates for Nelson, wore proposed without their knowl£sge.
