EGMONT NOMINATION.

The Taranaki Herald of Saturday last says : Tho nomination of candidates for the return of a member for the electoral district of Egmont was held at the toll-gate, Omata, 10-day at noon, when the Returning Officer, Mr C. E. Rawson, having read the writ, called upon the electors to propose their candidates. Mr Weyergang proposed “ George Francis Sherwood as a fit and proper person to represent the District of Egmont in the House of Representatives.” After a little delay, Mr W. Berridge seconded the motion pro forma , but who stated that he did it to oblige the candidate. Mr A. Standish proposed “ Harr}' Albert Atidnson as a candidate to represent the District of Egmont in the House of Representatives.” ■ Mr W. Newman seconded the nomination. Mr Sherwood said that he hoped to meet the electors at the Oddfellows’ Hall on Monday, when he would fully address them as to his reasons Tor contesting the election with Major Atkinson. Major Atkinson said that as he had already addressed the electors in various districts it wasunnecssary for him to speak at any length. He referred to his opponent saying at some of his meetings that it was time such an old fossil as he (Major Atkinson) retired—but they were together' now, and the electors could see if he was such au old fossil as he was represented to be.
