CARLYLE TOWN BOARD.

The usual monthly meeting or the above Board was held on Monday last, Present —Messrs Milroy (chairman), Adams, Aitchison, Dale, Howitt, and Taplin. Minutes of previous meeting read and confirmed. A letter was read from the Committee ol the Patea Institute, requesting the Board to strike a small rate in the town of Carlyle for the benefit of that Institution. Held over indefinitely, members not being certain of the power of the Board in that direction. "Proposed by Mr Aitchison, seconded by Mr Taplin, and carried, “ That this Board agrees to cancel the transfer of sections 5 and 15, block 40, irom Mrs Schultze to W. D. Shaw, at their request.” Proposed by Mr Taplin, seconded by Mr Adams, and carried “ That the application of Mr T. Wright, to open a drain across Sussex-street, to' enable him to drain his property, be granted, subject to approval of Works Committee.”

The Works Committee reported that the contract entered into with Mr J. Paterson, for gravelling foot-paths in Taranaki Road and Bed ford-streets, had been satisfactorily completed during the early part of last month. The only new work undertaken during the month was the filling in of main road fiom Mr Taplin’s corner to Mr Currie’s, in a temporary manner. Part of the earth used in formation had been taken from the north side of Oxford-street, thus forming footpath at the same time, without extra cost. Day labor had also been employed in spreading gravel on footpath in Taranaki Road ; also in re-forming footpath in Bedford-street, and making cart-way in Stafford-street, towards Mr Williams’.

Inspector of Nuisances reported that six horses had been impounded by the police off the public streets during the month.

Statement of receipts and expenditure for the month of July, showed —Receipts and cash in hand, £BS 10s 2d. Expenditure : Balance from July, £lls 9s 4d; during month, £B2 9s 3d; leaving a debtor balance of £ll2 8s sd. The meeting then adjourned.
