COUNTY COUNCIL.
V/ V/ W 1.1 JK. JL \/ vy (To the Editor of the Patea Mail.) Sir, —I see that applications are required for the appointment of Foreman of Works for this County. It is to be hoped that the Council will be more careful in their selection than they have hitherto been, as the roads at this end of the County, at least, have been much mismanaged under the two last Foremen —two or three coats of gravel have been put on in places, while other parts have been grossly neglected. Gravel has been deposited in heaps on the sides of the road in places where it was least likely to be wanted, at a much greater expense than it would have cost to take it direct to where repairs were required. Roads have been reformed for the convenience of contractors, which : was also an unnecessary expense. Light sand has been thrown on parts by the direction of the late Foreman,;which:has been labor worse than lost \ as the first rains turned it into mud. The gorse which they are now putting in the holes in the road only make matters worse Sian ever* as the holes in which it is thrown are not cleaned out, and slush is the consequence. Much moref could be said, showing trie blunders that ■ have been nivl-, -'but. I will -not trespass further .r; y .-.nr space. ■■ Hoping that the Council will seriously oonside- the matter before appointing their Foreman of Works, —i am, &c. , LYNX Waverley July 31 j 1879.
