HAWERA ROAD BOARD.

(jTo the Editor of the Patea Mail.) Sir, —I saw an advertisement in your columns —something called a balancesheet of the Hawera Town Board. It is some sort of an apology for one, but it is to be hoped the Board will never accept of such a thing. Who is Max. D. King who signed it ? Is he one of the Auditors, or Commissioner, or Chairman ? It is also to be hoped the Board will not pass the advertising account for payment, but let Max. D. King pay it himself, as I believe the resolution or the Board was that the accounts should be audited and balance-sheet advertised, most undoubtly signed as correct by an Auditor or Auditors.—l am, &c., RATEPAYER. O ■ (To the Editor of the Patea Mail.) Sir, — Can any of the Ratepayers in tlie Haweru Road District answer the following : Could the Board allow the Secretary’s sureties bonds to bo returned until they had hud the accounts audited and found correct ? If so, ami accounts are found not correct, cannot ratepayers sue the members Quit allowed it ? Also, what was the reason the Board, or a portion of the Board, did not attend the Assesmeut Court, as the present Valuation Roll is very incorrect. Some people on the Whakamara Block are rated twice for some sections, while others are not rated at all. Some with their places in grass and sub-divided with a road made down to the Otopi River, at 6s per acre; another, without any grass except about an eight-acre paddock, and no road made either side of the river, and not sub-divided, is rated at a fraction of 8d per acre. 1 hear that an account of £SO has been sent to the Board for Valuation. I, as a ratepayer, hope the Board will not pass the account without the items, as they got two practical farmers to do the valuing for £27 10s. Why should the Board pay it? The County Council caused the outlay. Let them pay it.— I am, &c., RATEPAYER. o
