HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. (Per Press Agency.) WELLINGTON. July 22, In the House to-day, Mr McLean presented a petition from Otago, re Bible reading in schools. Mr De Lautour spoke against the employment of Chinese on public works. In replying to Mr Stevens, the Premier said that statements of accounts of the colony Would be published immediately. Henare Tomoana took the oath and his Several Bills were introduced and read a first time. The greater portion of the afternoon was occupied in the debate on the Address in Reply. Mr Barff attacked Government for not keeping their promises, and injuring the public departments. Mr Wallis defended Government at great length, and appealed to the liberals of the House not to be led away, to the injury of the most enlightened policy they had ever seen introduced. Mr Gisborne followed in defence of Government till 5.30. The Premier will move his firsc resolution at a mass meeting on Thursday night. Messrs Rees and Moss will also address the meeting.
