WAVERLEY.

(From oar own Correspondent.) June 27. Messrs J. & A, Milne’s house was burned to the, ground on Thursday morning. Mr. Milne, senr., was, (fortunately as things turned out) sleeping in the house, and was awakened about 5 a.m. by the roaring noise occasioned by the firef He gave' the alarm, after which he became; stupified by, the* smoke, and.. ..had to be helpeddown stairs by Bis son. Miss Milne had also a narrow escape,, she having to get through the window on to the verandah, and from there to the ground. A; man sleeping in the house was badly burnt about the head and arm. ' Fortunately all escaped with their lives. Everything in the house was totally destroyed, the family not having even time to dress themselves. I understand that the house was insuree, but the loss of furniture, &c., must be very heavy.
