WAITOTARA.
(From a Correspondent.) - .. . . Jane 27. A well attended public meeting was held in the .Schoolrodm. fest night, to consider the action of the Hawera settlers'in-re-moving native—ploughmen; Captain' Jordaftjq the The-following resolution, moved i>y- Mr James Stent, and secondedby Darfe, was carried unanimously, “ That the settlers and inhabitants of Waitotata district desire to express .their-approval of the action taken by the Hawera settlers in removing native ploughmen from Mr. Livingstone’s land; and for the. moderate manner in which they did'it; and that
a telegram be sent to Mr . Livingstone to that effect.”
It was strongly urged by Captain Kells and the Chairman that no action which would cause bloodshed should be taken while the country was pot fully prepared. . i Meeting broke up with vote of thanks to the chair.
No further action has been taken towards forming a volunteer company in this district, so it would appear that the settlers here do not as yet consider it necessary to be prepared for any trouble that may arise.
