MANUTAHI.
(from a correspondent.) A public meeting was held at the Block House, on Tuesday 3rd, June, to discuss native affairs. Mr F. J. Gane in the chair. Proposed by Mr E. J. Morgan. spr>n.r>fWl hv. Mr It. W-. Foreman, and carried unanimously, •' 031.-1. rs~l ment issue arms and ammunition to the settlers, and allow them to form themselves into a * Local Defence Force/ for the purpose of protecting the Manntahi district, the said force not to be taken out of the aforesaid district.” Proposed by Mr John Ginger, seconded by Mr Duncan McGregor, and carried unanimously, “ That a deputation consisting of the following settlers, Messrs E. J. Morgan, John Ginger, R. W. Foreman, D. McGregor, A. Bremer, R. B. Hamilton, and the chairman, communicate with the Government on the defenceless state of this district, the and urgent necessity of putting the Block Houses into a state of efficient repair at once, and that about 25 persons are willing to join the above force.”
