HAWERA.

(from our own correspondent.) On Saturday last Mr McGuire put up by auction, the Hawera Brewery, with plant &c. The highest bid was £975, but it was bought in, and nothing else in connection with the Brewery was sold. Mr McGuire then put up some very fine horses, the property of Mr Quinlivan, but with all the Auctioneer’s eloquence only one could be sold, that one fetching £44 10s. The Assessment Court for the Hawera Road Board Rate Roll was held on Monday the 12th instant, before 0. A. Wray, Esq., Assessment Judge. No odjections wore put in, so the Roll was passed. A football match will be played on Saturday next, between the Hawera and Waihi Clubs. The sides appear to be very equally matched, so we may expect to see an exciting game. The Hawera Acclimatisation Society being duly gazetted, licenses are being issued every day. The list of persons who have taken out licenses will be advertised in a few days.
