DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL.

Thr following letters have been received by the Carlyle School Committee, from which it will be seen that a District High School is to be established in Carlyle ; Wanganui, May 5, 1879. To Mi - W. Aitcheson, Chairman Carlyle School Committee. Sir, —l have the honor to enclose you a copy of a letter received from the Minister of Education, by which you will see that he has sanctioned the conversion of the Carlyle School into a District High School. If you will let me know when you purpose taking action in the matter, I shall bo happy to afford you every information and assistance in my power, should such be necessary. A. A. Browne, Secretary. Sib, —l have the honor, by direction of the Minister of Education, to acknowledge the receipt of your memo, of 12th April, furnishing information as to the Board’s proposed arrangements for the establishment and maintenance of the Carlyle School as a District High School under the Education Act. I am to say that in the circumstances set forth in the memo, referred to, the Minister sanctions the conversion of the Carlyle Public School into a District High School, and that a regulation by Order-in-Council will be issued, fixing the rate of payment, by way of school fees, 15s per quarter, as proposed by the Board. Meanwhile, there is no reason why the Board should not at once proceed to carry out its proposals. (Signed) John Hislop, Secretary.
