CARLYLE TOWN BOARD.
The usual monthly meeting of the above Board was hold on Monday evening. Present Messrs Milroy (chairman), Dale, Aitcheson, Hirst, Taplin. Minutes ol previous meeting read and confirmed.
Correspondence,inward and outward, read.
Permission was granted to Mr Dale to sub-let portion of sections 8 and 9, Block 40, to Mr J. Chadwick, sen., of Wanganui; also portion of sections, Block 40, to Mr Goodfollow. Permission was granted Mrs Schultze to transfer sections 5 and 15, Block 40, to Mr W. D. Shaw, Wanganui.
A telegram was read from the Government auditor, requesting that a detailed statement, balance-sheet, vouchei’S, and certificate of Bank book, be forwarded to him at Wellington, to be audited.
Tendex’s for kerbing were opened from J. Mouri & Co., 32s 6d per chain (declined) ; H. I. Davis, at 24s per chain (accepted). Also tenders for gravelling footpaths—J. Paterson, at £3 17s 6d per chain, and 4s lid per yard for gravel (accepted); John E. Keys, £3 7s 6d per chain, and gravel at 6s 6d per yard (declined). Proposed by Mr Taplin, seconded by Mr Hirst, “ That the Board cannot send their vouchers and papers out of their office. The books are closed in up to 31st March, and are quite ready to be audited whenever the gentleman appointed for that purpose arrives.”—Proposed as an amendment by Mr Milroy, seconded by Mr Dale, and cai'ried, “ That in reply to Government auditor, the Board fail to see the justice of forwarding their vouchers to Wellington for the pux-pose of being audited, as in the evenf 'of their being lost, great inconvenience would he caused.”
Proposed by Mr Dale, seconded by Mr Taplin, and lost, “ That a committee consisting of Messrs Taplin, Milroy, and the mover, be appointed to take steps to raise a loan of £SOO/on the security of the rents that may become due to the Board ; to report to the next meeting.” Proposed by Mr Dale seconded by Mr Aitcheson, and carried, V That notice be given that it is the intention' of the Board to strike a rate of 9d in the £ on all rateable property within the Town of Carlyle, at a meeting to be held on Friday, 30th May, 1879, at the Board’s office, Carlyle, for the period commencing 30th May, and ending 31st March 1880; and that the same shall be due and payable in one instalment, at the office of the Board, on Ist July, 1879 ; and that the rate book is now open for inspection at the office of the Board, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., until the 30th May, 1879.” Proposed by Mr Aitchison, seconded by Mr Milroy, and carried, “ That the Clerk write to the County Council;
drawing attention to the dilapidated condition of the public pound, and request that it be put in a proper state of repair, and a suitable notice board, with the charges painted legibly thereon.” Working Committee reported that the contract entered into by Mr Hughes was all but completed, and recommended a first payment of £IOO be made, in the absence of the Engineer to take the works over. Leicester-street formation had been completed and taken over, and the road metalled by Mr Keys. The works proposed in Norfolk and Kent streets, for which the sum of £2O had been voted, would possibly be carried out during the present month. Accounts passed for papment, and the meeting adjourned.
