ARRIVAL OF IMMIGRANTS.
Tuk s.s. Staclt Haarlem, Captain do Boer, arrived at Wellington, from London, on the 18th April. She is barque - rigged carries a large amount of canvas, with Cunningham’spatentreefingtopsaik-* at the fore and main. Her engines are compound, of 450 horse-power nominal, working up to 2000 horse-power indicated. The cylinders are inverted, and are 50in. and 88in. respectively, with a stroke of 48in. Her average speed 13 knots, but in fair weather she attains a much greater speed. The steering apparatus is aft, and is worked by steam. She has excellent saloon accommodation, which is very handsomely fitted with birdscye maple and violet velvet.
Notice having been sent to Wellington that Patea would take a certain number of immigrants on arrival of the Stadt Haarlem, the following families were sent on in the s.s. PVea the next day : Sparks—George. 39 years ; Maria, 36 yoavj. Ann, 19 years ; George, 17 years ; Louisa, 16 years ; Eiimin, 13 years 5 Henry, 8 years ; Ethel, child. Godfrey—Amos, 44 years. alary, years ; Elizabeth, 15 years; Charles, 14 years; William, 12 j'ears ; Alice, 10 years ; Ernest, 7 years ; Rosa, 5 years. Coleman—James, 27 years ; Agnes, 21 years ; Ada, 2 years. One -of family died on passage out.
Goldsack—William, 31' years ; Sarah, 29 years. Henry, 12 years; Ellen. 8 years; George, 5 years ; Albert, 3 years ; Emily, 1 year. Rodgers—George, 32 years ; Sarah, 27 years. Charles, 4 years ; James, 2 years ; Henry, 7£ months.
Goodwin—Charles and Ann. William, 16 years ; Charles, 14 yeais ; James, 13 years; Seaman, 12 years; Sydney, 11 years ; Naomi, 7 years ; George, 6 years. Goldfinch—William and Emma. Robert, 4 years.
Hatcher—William, 33 years ; Nilia, 32 years. Fred, 12 years ; George, 6 years ; Adelaide, 3 years. Rye—William, 34 years ; Susannah, 28 years. William, 7 years ; Alfred, 5 years ; Mary, 3 years ; Susannah, 1 year. Rolfe—John, 31 years; Mary, 25 years. Emil}', 8 years; Albert, 6 years ; Walter, 3 years.
Beer—William, 40 years ; Sarah, 49 years. Lucy, 12 years ; George, 10 years. Druary—Thomasine, 20 years. The above were landed from the Patea on Sunday morning, and located at the Immigiation Barracks. They are a firstclass sample of immigrants, the male adults being all farm laborers, and just the right stamp to come into a country district like Patea. Nearly all have been eagerly taken up, more especially young girls, for servants, and at very good wages. The Patea will bring up on her next trip the remainder allotted to the district, and we hope all will be satisfied with the change from the old country to the new and flourishing district of Patea.
