CARLYLE TOWN BOARD.
The usual monthly meeting of the above Board was held at the Council Chambers, Carlyle, on Monday evening last. Present: Messrs Milroy (chairman), Aitchison, Dale, and Adams. Minutes of previous meeting read and confirmed. Correspondence included —Letter from Colonial Treasurer, forwarding voucher for second instalment of subsidy; from F. M. Betts, Wanganui, forwarding rent on account of 11. I. Jones; from W. Dale, requesting permission to sub-let portions of sections 8 and 9, block 40, to R. Stroud. In answer to a question, it was proposed by Mr Adams, seconded by Mr Dale, and carried, “ That Mr Betts be informed that the Board have no objections to Mr Skclley as tennent to Mr 11. I. Jones.” Proposed by Air Aitchison, seconded by Air Milroy, and carried, That Air Dale’s application to sub-let to Mr Stroud be granted. Proposed by Air Aitchison, seconded by Air Dale, and carried, “That the Clerk be juilhon’seJ to t]i<± several accounts for contract work as (bey become due, on receipt of Engineer’s certificate, sanctioned by the Public Works Committee.” Public Works Committee reported the following works done during (he month : Putting in culvert across Middlosex-stroct below the Institute, and also across Taranaki Road, opposite Air John Collins; clearing part of Aiidd'esex-strect, and clearing out main drain—by day labor, costing £4 17s. The work lately* let by contract was being carried out as fast as possible, with the exception of .gravelling, which could not well be begun until some of the formation is finished and taken over. Inspector of Nuisances reported that the drain from the Pa tea Brewery to the River had been cleaned out during the month. There had been eleven horses and two head of cattle impounded from off the public streets by the police. Tbo Inspector also informed the Board that his appointment expired on the 3rd April, and wished to k/.ow the intentions of the Board for the future. Proposed by Mr Aitchison, seconded by Air Adams, and carried, “ That the Board consider the Inspector of Nuisances hay fulfilled his duties in a satisfactory way dnringthe past year, and renew his appointment at the same salaty.” Proposed by Mr Dale, seconded by Mr Adams and carried, “ That separate tenders be called for kerbing and gravelling footpath on Taranaki Road and Bedford Street, to be sent in by next meeting.” Statement of accounts to Slat March, showed Receipts : Balance Ist March, £253 12s Gd ; rents (six months), £47 17s i 3d ; 2nd instalment subsidy, £7l 16s 2d ; pound fees, 6s ; rates £2 14s 9d. Total, £376 6s Bd. Expenditure, £32 Ss Gd. Leaving a credit balance of £313 18s 2d. Accounts passed for payment, and the meeting adjourned.
