WAIROA HIGHWAY BOARD.
The usual monthly meeting of the above Board was held on Saturday last. Present —Wardens Bridge (chairman), Lupton, lon, Fleming, McLean. Minutes of previous ordinary and special meetings read and confhmed. Treasurer’s balance, £317 18s 9d. Correspondence included—Letter from D. McDonald, asking that certain repaiis be done to the Cemetery Road ; from the Colonial Treasurer, that £262 2s 6d had been forwarded to credit of Board in Bank of Australasia ; from Joseph Black and others, requesting the Board to open a bridle track to Block 8, Momahaki. Tenders—Middle Mangitangi : Hughes, £175 10s, accepted ; Johnston & Woolston, £199 10 s, declined. Waitotara River Bank : H. Dudley, formation, t'GB, accepted ; Nathan, formation, £IJG, declined. Resolved, That the Chairman apply for a map of the land surveyed across the Momahaki. Proposed by Mr Lupton, seconded by Mr lon, and carried, “ That fresh tenders be invited for gravelling Waitotara River Bank Road.” Messrs McMeechan and others appeared as a deputation, requesting the Board to repair and gravel road near Palmer’s. Proposed by Mr McLean, seconded by Mr Lupton, and carried, “ That specifications be prepared for repairing and gravelling road near Palmer’s, and that tenders be invited by 18th instant; the Chairman to have power to accept,” Proposed by Mr Fleming, seconded by Mr Lupton, and carried, “ That the con-
sideration of D. McDonald’s letter be deferred until next meeting.” Proposed by the Chairman, seconded by Mr Fleming, and carried, “ That A. Milne’s offer of! a subscription equal to his next year’s rate, providodthe amount bo spent in opening the road past his property, be accepted.” Proposed by Mr Fleming, seconded by Mr Lupton, and carried, “That tenders be invited at once for sanding 5 chains Oi’.ca cutting.” Proposed by Mr Fleming, seconded by Mr Lupton, and lost, “That the Foreman of Works ho instructed to do the work between Fleming’s and Twigg’s, mentioned in bis report, by day labour, with the exception of the cutting through the hill on the seaward side of Peat’s gate, for which he will prepaie specifications.” Proposed by Mr McLean, seconded bj T Mr lon, ami carried, “ That the whole of the work be let by tender.” Proposed by Mr McLean, seconded by the Chairman, and carried, “That the Foreman of Works report to the Board at the next meeting upon the track to Block 8, Momahaki.” Accounts passed and paid—Saunders, £l4 ; Riches, £4 10s ; Ovcrend, 14s 6d ; stamps, £2 ; telegrams and stationery, Gs Gd ,* W. Milne, £lO ; Chronicle, £1 10s; Drummond and Alexander, £5 5s ; Ross, £lO 14s ; Gardner, £8 IGs ; 11. Dudley, £7. The meeting adjourned.
