I (i>rfOM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) r.m. court; Monday March 10th. (Before C. A. Wray, Esq., II.M. and Captain Wilson, J.P.) Constable Wilson-v A. Power,- P. Ester, anil Arthur Biifr,- ibi'fighting in the public street, Normanby, on the 9th instant. Fined 5s each and costs 7s, or 24 hours each. „ . _. John P. Cary v Phillippa Chime, for assußlting hiin whilst at work on his own ground. Defendant admitted having hit plaintiff with a small stick, but stated that she had ordered him off her land, and that he refused to go, also- that he was in the habit of answering her in various wa}’-s,-by listening at her doors, andfrightening her. The case was dismissed with costs. Te To v James Hayward' for assualting him at Ketemarae on Sunday'the 2nd of March; Mr Hamerton appeared for defendant. This case which occupied the Court the most of the day,-arose from-me plaintiff having stolen a joint" of meat from- the Ketemarae Hotel. Mrs Haysv-ard- had followed* the thief and recovered the meat. Oh plaintiff reentering the hotel he was ordered by the proprietor, Mr Hayward, to leave,- but refusal. A struggle then ensued, and plaintiff was thrown in attempting to leap over him to make his escape. Defendant’s foot came in-contact with plaintiff’s eye, inflicting a wound ; two-other Maoris, assaulted Mr Hayward ilmlng nis sirugglc wHu plaintiff. Caso dismissed. Sergt. Cahill v James Hayward, for allowing a native named Reuben, to remain on his premises whilst in a state of intoxication. Mr Hamerton for defendant. • Evidence failed to prove that defendant was aware of the native being on his premises at the time. The case was accordingly dismissed. Sergt. Cahill v Ngakati, with being drunk and disorderley in the streets of Hawera on the 6lh of March. Fined 5s and costs. Constable Crozier v John Parkin, with being drunk and incapable in the streets of Hawera on the sth march last. Fined 5s and costs or 24 hours. Trustee of J. S. Grieg’s Estate v T.Espagne. Claim 1 £2l 9s Gfd. Judgment for plaintiff for £9 13s sd. Costs of Court to be divided. Same vR. iEgles. Adjourned to next Court day.
