ASSESSMENT COURT.

Thursday, February 27. (Before o.' A; Wray, Esq., Judge.) PATEA 'WEST ROAD BOARD. There were several appeals against the valuation made by Mr Dale for this district, on the ground of being too high, that gentleman having valued the properties in the district higher than what had been the custom in previous years. Some of the objestors did not appear, and their cases were struck out. Messrs R. B. Pearce, A. Hunter, P. Campbell, J. Ball, J. and H. Williamson,E. M.Honeyfield, and W. Balmforth appeared in support of their objections. After the evidence of the objectors and Mr Dale’s had been taken, the Court decided, at the request of the objectors, to adjourn to the 13ih instant, to enable evidence to be brought forward to prove the value of the properties. The objectors were informed that if the valuations were upheld, they would have to pay the expenses incurred by the valuator in support of his valuation. Messrs J. and H. Williamson preferring to have their case decided by the Court at oiice, Mr Dale’s valuation of 14s per acre on their farm was upheld.

Saturday, March 1. (Before C, A. Wray, Esq., Judge.) patea east road board.

The Patea County Council objected to the valuation list of this Board, on the ground that the valuation made was too low. Mr Fitzherbert, solicitor of Wanganui, appeared for the County Council, and called Messrs Dale and Greenway (the gentlemen who had been acting as Land Tax Valuers for the county) to prove the objection. After hearing the Board Valuator’s evidence, the Court decided that the valuation was too low, and therefore upset it. Costs of case to be paid by Patea East Hoad Board.

Monday, March 3rd. . (Before C. A, Wray, Esq., R.M.) HAWERA ROAD BOARD.

The Patea County Council also objected to this list, on similar grounds to the Patea East Road Board. Mr Fitzherbert appeared for the County Council, and Mr Winks, one of the members of the Board, on behalf of that body. Another objection to the valuation was,- that it was not in accordance with the form prescribed by law. Mr Dale was examined to show that the valuations made were below what they should have been, and Mr W. M. Thomson, auctioneer of Hawera, was also called, whose value slightly exceeded that of Mr Dale. One of the valuers, Mr F. J. Gane, was also examined. The list was upset, cost of case to be paid by Hawera Road Board.
