The first meeting of the newly-elected TltirUor Board-was'held'on Satuiday last, when the following gentlemen were present Messrs James Southcombe ( Waver!ey Riding),-\V. Balmforth (Otoia Riding), J. Gibson (Hawera , Riding), 1 R. Horner (County Council); John Milroy and R. A. Adams (Town Board), G. F. Sherwood (nominated by Governor): The meeting was called for the election of a Chairman, to which important office Mr G; F. Sherwood was unanimously elected; We congratulate the members on their choice, for it must be admitted tnat Mr Sherwood has done his utmost to advance ■ the interests of the district since he has been a member of the. Board, which dates from its formation. After Hie election of Chairman, a special meeting ; was held, and bye-laws regulating wharves, &c., confirmed, which it is intended shortly to publish. We understand that the new Board are very hopeful of prospects •generally. The good effects of the breakwater are so evident, that there can be no doubt of success. Clear sea water now finds its way plentifully into the river, and for a long distance up, the water is quite 'green at high tide. The new hopper barge has inst been completed, and work can be pushed ahead-more rapidly. There areover 100 large concrete blocks at present seasoned, and ready to be placed in position! the large crane to be used for this purpose we are happy to say works beautifully. The new Board seems to have been launched into smooth water, and we sincerely trust they will’make the best of their time, being limited as it is to three years.
