The sun never sets on our Empire, neither does war cease in il. In South Africa, the Native Difficulty seems to exist on a far larger scale than in New Zealand ; and the natives themselves arc. said to be scarcely inferior to the .Maori. A portion of the Kaflir race, called the Zulus, or Amazulus, inhabiting the coast region north-east cf Natal, and between the recently annexed Transvaal Jlepublic, and the Indian Ocean, have overwhelmed, and almost annihilated a British regiment. This disaster leaves the Colony and City of Natal apparently unprotected. It is to be feared that during tho few weeks which must elapse before reinforcements can arrive, either from India or England, the colonists may suffer very greatly.
