WAVERLEY.

(From our own Correspondent.) A meeting of the School Committee was liekl on Saturday night, which was probably the ;.hast, before the next election. The present Committee have given general satisfaction, and much has been done since they were elected. It i« to bo hoped thatthis

time the electors will consider well before giving their votes, the great necessity of having really goodamd energetic men to form such an important body as a School Committee. A letter was read from tlie Education Board, asking the Committee if they could furnish them with a specific complaint against the School Inspector. Letter to stand over. Mr Swinhonrn was appointed auditor. It was resolved to allow girls over the usual ago allowed to attend school ; at a previous meeting it was decided that a request to give the same permission to a boy should ha refused, the reason given being that hoys can attend night schools, whereas it is inconvenient for girls to do so. I hear that Mr Hansard is about opening a night sciiool for boys who cannot attend the day school. The anniversary services were preached in bt. Andrew’s Church on Sunday last, by the Rev J. Paterson. A tea mealing was held tins (Tuesday) afternoon, which was wMI pairoidsod. The election on Saturday for the Patea County Council, resulted hi the return of Mr Brewer by a large majority. Unlike farmer elections, considerable interest was shewn in the matler, and Waver!ey .for a short time in the afternoon was unite lively.
