(Per Press Agency.) DUNEDIN. December 17. There are six cases of typhoid fever in the Dunedin Hospital at present. Those suffering from it were passengers by the Timaru, which arrived in port last month. ALEXANDRA. ; December 17, A native named Hohepa, a near relative of Ngatiamaniapoto and the chief Toanui, was struck by lightning on Saturday last, while wading between Oranui and Otiwa. He and his horse were killed instantly. NEW PLYMOUTH. December 17. Mr Alexander Campbell, who was with Rewi and Dr JHector’s party, has returned to New Plymouth. He reports that Dr Hector has examined several seams of coal, and reports favourably of them. A sample he brings with him resembles the West Wanganui coal. ,
The launch Mokau takes Eewi. Dr Hector, and several chiefs up the Mokau, for twenty miles, and then the party will go by canoes to Nepia,, and from thence proceed on to Kuiti, and wait there for the Hon. Mr Sheehan. Rewi will then forward Dr Hector on with the principal chiefs of the Tahau to other parts of the country. After testing the coal on the banks of the Mokau, Eewi asked Df Hector what he thought of it. Dr Hector replied that it was very good. Eewi then replied, “ shall have the Europeans to work it.”
