VALUATIONS.

(To the Editor of the Patea Mail.) Sir, —I noticed in your last issue that you had a local referring to valuation of property within the County. I think it is time some of the persons who take upon themselves the position of valuers, should understand the solemn declaration they make before a Justice of the Peace. A case came under my notice yesterday, of a property in the Wairoa Highway District, which is considered worth £9 per acre, but, accouling to the Hate Book, the rateable value is less than 2s per acre. 1 am glad to find that the County Council are likely to take the matter in hand, and see that the different local bodies value on a uniform basis. It is not right that any one part of the district should be paying more than a fair share of rates.—l am, &c., SETTLER. Patea, December 12, 1878.
