LIBRARY AT WAVERLEY.

A i'Ußi.lo meeting, called by advertisement, was held in the Town Hall, Waverley, on Tuesday last, the 2Gth November, for the purpose of taking into consideration the ath usability of establishing a Library in accordance with the provisions of “The Public Libraries’ Act, 1875,” Great interest was taken in the matter, and the refill it was that the pros and cons were well talked over, both before and at the meeting. Mr Swinbonrne was voted to the chair. It was proposed by the Rev it. J. Allswortb, seconded by Mr Bridge, and carried unanimously, “ That immediate steps be taken by this meeting to establish a Public Library for the Town and District of Waverley, in accordance with _clause 2 of ‘The Public Libraries’ Act, 1875,’ those present to form themselves into an ad interim committee, wiih power to add to their numbers.”

Proposed by Mr 0. Hawes, seconded by Mr McFarlane, and carried, “That Mr W. A. G. Winchcomb be Secretary jure tern." Proposed by Mr Bridge, seconded by Rev R. J. Allswortb, and carried, “ That a list for donations and subscriptions be opened, and copies placed in the Banks of Australasia and New Zealand, at Waverley, and at Mr Winchcomb’s office.” A committee consisting of the'following gentlemen was elected—Rev R. J. Allsworth, and Messrs Sw'mbourne, Bridge, McFarlane, 0. Hawes, Hume, Winchcomb, and Mason.

On the motion of Mr McFarlane, seconded by Mr Bridge, the meeting adjourned until that day fortnight. A vote of thanks to the Chairman concluded the proceedings.
